Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® Virginia

What makes Juvéderm® injections so common in Virginia and Washington, DC is the relative ease and reasonable cost of these injectable dermal fillers made by Allergan. Dr. Marefat, a cosmetic plastic surgeon in Virginia, has years of experience in the treatment of superficial lines and wrinkles of the face with soft cosmetic injectables like Juvéderm®.

Juvéderm® is an injectable gel made from hyaluronic acid. It is made for injection into the dermis for the improvement of fine wrinkles and lines. The use of Juvéderm® in Virginia has helped correct signs of facial aging. The procedure is extremely safe, and adverse effects are minor. Occasionally, minor pain, redness, itching, or swelling may result. Many of these minor side effects are temporary and resolve within a short time. Juvéderm® is made by Allergan, the company that also produces Botox® Cosmetic. The beneficial effects of Juvéderm® may last up to 6 months after the injection.

What is Juvéderm® made from?

Juvéderm® Ultra and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus are both made from a naturally found chemical called hyaluronic acid. This chemical, when injected in the skin, helps restore volume to the dermis. The volume added expands and fills the skin, making lines and wrinkles less apparent.

How and where is the Juvéderm® injection performed?

The injection of Juvéderm® is done with fine gauge needles in the skin or just under the skin. Usually, Juvéderm® Ultra is given in a more superficial plan than Juvéderm® Ultra Plus, but they may be used differently by certain practitioners, depending on their technique and experience. The lines around the mouth and eyes are commonly treated, as are forehead lines or brow lines. Sometimes, the product is used to fill a certain part of the face or lip. Dark circles around the eyes or depressed lines that become apparent under the eyes can also be treated with Juvéderm® in Virginia.

How long do the results of Juvéderm® injections last?

The longevity of the results for Juvéderm® depends on the areas treated. Less mobile areas generally have longer-lasting results. However, Juvéderm® is a long-lasting dermal filler, and its effects have been known to last as long as 6 months or more.

Does the Juvéderm® injection hurt?

There is minor discomfort associated with the injections of Juvéderm®. In some areas, Dr. Marefat will opt to numb you with local anesthetic agents like those you would receive at the dentist. Alternatively, he may decide to apply topical anesthetic creams to the areas that are going to be injected with Juvéderm®.

Are the results of Juvéderm® injections apparent immediately?

No. Initially, the area injected with Juvéderm® may be somewhat red and swollen. Occasionally, some bruising may be associated with the injection. However, these signs of swelling and bruising will subside after a few days, and your true result will be seen. The fullness of the area injected may not be immediate. It takes several days for the full effect of the medicine to be apparent.

Is it necessary to do any skin testing before Juvéderm® injections?

No. You can inject Juvéderm® without any testing on your skin. Hyaluronic acid is completely biocompatible. You may, however, have minor irritation from the injection. These symptoms are usually allergic in nature.

Juvéderm® Ultra and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus are made by Allergan, the maker of Botox® Cosmetic. The company has had an excellent track record with the use of medicine for facial rejuvenation, and their products have been used with efficacy and safety for many years.
