What is Radiesse®?

Radiesse® is a dermal filler that provides a natural look that lasts. It is safe, FDA-approved, and it lasts longer than most dermal fillers. Radiesse® is used to fill deep lines and wrinkles that commonly haunt us as we get older. Wrinkles around the eyes (smile lines), the lines around the mouth (nasolabial lines), and deep hollows that form as result of aging can be quickly and easily corrected. The procedure is usually done in the office and is painless with local anesthetics.

Radiesse® is made from a unique, calcium-based chemical that is placed in a gel-like liquid. Injected through small needles, it is evenly dispersed in the skin and eliminates the lines and wrinkles that detract from your looks.

How does Radiesse® work?

The calcium-based chemical is deposited under your skin. These chemicals form a substrate or “scaffold” for the skin to form new collagen. Your own body builds the proteins that are needed for healthy and youthful skin. Over a period of weeks and months, the calcium microspheres gradually break down and are eliminated by the body. The collagen that was laid down as a result becomes absorbed by your body, too.

How soon does Radiesse® work?

The results that you see with Radiesse® are almost immediate. The treated area will become slightly swollen immediately after injection. However, this swelling does not last very long. Typically, in less than 24 hours, the swelling subsides and you will see that you no longer have the lines and wrinkles you once had.

How long do the results of Radiesse® last?

Radiesse® may last up to 1 year after treatment, depending on the area injected and on how fast your own body breaks down the calcium microspheres. It is impossible to predict this. However, in most cases, results last more than 7 months, and could last as long as 12 months.

How is a Radiesse® injected?

Radiesse® is generally injected by a physician in the office. The area to be treated is numbed with lidocaine (similar to the medicine used for numbing by a dentist). After the area is completely numb, the Radiesse® is injected under the skin with a fine needle. 

Will there be any brusing after Radiesse® injections?

Yes. There may be some bruising after the Radiesse® treatment. This varies and cannot be predicted. Some patients do not bruise at all, while others may have bruising that lasts for 1-2 weeks. In most cases, bruising is very minor and can be covered with make-up. Most patients do not take time off for this procedure and go back to their normal activity immediately after surgery.

How many treatments of Radiesse® are necessary?

It is difficult to estimate how many treatments are necessary to completely solve the problem area. In some patients a single treatment is all that is needed, while in others a touch-up procedure may be needed to achieve the best possible result.

Is Radiesse® safe?

Yes. It is completely safe.  Radiesse® has been used in the medical arena for many years and there is ample clinical evidence that this drug is safe. Over 4,000 physicians have used this drug, and thousands of patients have safely undergone this procedure.

What are the side effects of Radiesse®?

There are no adverse effects that have been reported with regard to the drug itself. There may be side effects related to the injection, such as swelling and bruising. These minor side effects are self-limited and usually get better after a few days.

Is Radiesse® permanent?

No. Radiesse®, like most dermal fillers, is not permanent. Depending on the area of face injected, it can be very long lasting, but not permanent.

Is Radiesse® affordable in Virginia?
